After 200 years of confinement, NetX has returned to public light. Various antiques are sold at cheering auction prices. Historical data of seven components offers enlightening thoughts to all walks of life. The antique-feverish old professor, also the biggest contributor, is awarded the highest award. “He will be a cross-age ‘organism’ born hundreds of years ago and having been alive till now.”
His hands are shaking. No organism has ever lived this long before, not to mention the unprecedented revival after centuries of “hibernation”. The mere thought imposes much pressure on his already clogged veins.
After moments of thought, the professor summons his interns, pats his face, clears his throat, and says in a serious voice:
“Both of you have devoted much effort to the resurgence of Ethanim these years. Our hard work has been recognized by the whole world. The high reputation must come with well-paid offers from numerous labs. It is your decision now to leave or stay.”
“And I am already an old man now. The future may not be that promising.”
The two young men exchange a glimpse and answer without any hesitation, “We want to stay. We can never get to these achievements without your uninterrupted guidance and commitment.”
“Besides, Gatsby needs his red wine, doesn’t he?”
The professor laughs, and releases his suppressed exhilaration:
“Now, what I’m going to do will achieve far beyond the restoration of Ethanim, and…”
He makes the gesture of five. “Five more years. This will be your own choice. You are both young and have much to fulfill. But here with me…”
“Enough with the chitchat, professor. Anything you need us to do. Just name it.” One young man interrupts his “casting of spells”. The two interns are thrilled to usher in the next chapter as the old professor guides the way.
Then, the professor briefs his two teammates on his envision. They appear amazed but excited. They know their next mission will be unprecedented, let alone the influence it brings once taking off. The track of world development may even be redirected. They are more than happy to stick with the professor, for five, ten, or even twenty years.
The courage and persistence of the two have greatly impressed the professor, proud to have them at the late stage of his life. He firmly believes that his aspiration will be realized with the help of the two dreamers, or to say, Jarvis will be practically reborn.
The professor carefully strokes the AR goggles on the table and says gently with a pure look, “There are not many years left for me. The stage will be given to these young men. I really want to wait till you are revived. You must have the same thought. Right, Jarvis?”
He pauses for a few seconds…
“Or should I call you Friday?”
The moon is bright and high in the sky. Tender is the night that is destined to be extraordinary.
